Reading Minsk is like stumbling on the tribal songs of
some as-yet-undocumented Arctic people.
Greenlaw's poems are dreams of travel and longing for home. They have
the clarity and purity one associates with cold air--which makes her
rare outbursts of joy and heat and light all the more dazzling.
- Lev Grossman. Time, 9 May 2005.
"Here, the bedrock is older than life/ on earth. It carries no trace of
death,/ no methane or anthracite, nothing to burn."

In
trackless woods, it puzzled me to find
Four great rock maples seemingly aligned,
As if they had been set out in a row
Before some house a century ago,
To edge the property and lend some shade.

You
meant more than life to me. I lived
through you not knowing, not knowing I
was living.
I learned that you called for me. I came to
where you were living, up a stair. There
was no one there.

When Time Melts
by
Deanna L. Mulvihill
from mmm . .
Mulvihill's Monday musings
When time melts, the sand shifts
The dunes flow and falcons fly
When time melts, the sun eclipses
Rain falls and plants drink
Flowers bloom and bugs crawl.
When time melts.
Yet here are you and I
Amidst this time warp
Amidst this prayer call
When time melts
Dew falls and animals feed
When time melts, when time melts
Sand blows, moves and crawls
From here to there, to here again
When time melts and melts and melts and
Then dissolves.
Then here are you and I
And I and I
Among the dunes, beneath the skies
Beneath the burning sun
When time melts.

This work started in the late seventies when I
was a working mother and searching for some creative outlet of
my own. I can wholeheartedly recommend the art and journalizing
process as a method of self-discovery. My journalizing process
took a big leap in the early eighties. By then I was a single
mother, raising three children on my own. My son gave me a
beautiful journal for Mothers Day. He had seen me writing and
drawing on loose-leaf paper. I share these words and images with
you because they and the process have been so healing for me. It
is not only the process of doing the writing and drawing that
has been healing , sometimes reading it years later has been
healing or even at times inspiring. Perhaps they can be healing
or even inspiring for you. Perhaps they will encourage you to
start your own journal of musings. That would be the best
results.
